Frequency and period converter
Convert a positive clock frequency into its period, or a positive period into frequency.
Period
Formula
T = 1 / f
f = 1 / T
A 1 MHz clock has a 1 µs period; 100 MHz has a 10 ns period; 1 GHz has a 1 ns period; and 50 Hz has a 20 ms period. Values must be greater than zero: a zero or negative frequency/period has no reciprocal physical meaning here.
Common mistakes
Always convert the prefix correctly before taking the reciprocal. MHz is 106 Hz and ns is 10−9 s. This ideal conversion says nothing about clock uncertainty, duty cycle, rise/fall time or timing budget.
